Abstract

Amiodarone, commonly used antiarrhythmic drug, has many side effects including thyroid function disorder, bradycardia, corneal microdeposits, hepatitis and increased sensitivity to light. Most of these effects result from accumulation of amiodarone in tissue, which is a consequence of long-term usage of this drug. Acute hepatitis, renal failure, acute pancreatitis, widespread muscle cramps and severe abdominal pain due to short-term use of amiodarone are rare acute side effects. However, we have not found any case reports in the literature about severe abdominal pain during a loading dose of amiodarone. With this case report, we aim to emphasize this rare side effect of amiodarone where a change in treatment is required
